Is BYD right for you?

What it does well

  • Works with around 20 inverter brands, including the Fronius GEN24 Plus, so it fits most hybrid setups.
  • Sized in small steps: 2.56 kWh (HVS) or 2.76 kWh (HVM) modules, expandable up to three towers.
  • The AU warranty prints a throughput figure for every model, so you know exactly what’s covered.

Trade-offs to know

  • The warranty ends at 10 years or about 3,000 full cycles, whichever comes first. Heavy daily cycling can use that up before year 10.
  • Rated to 50°C. We keep it out of west-facing sun and hot sheds, and it needs a separate hybrid inverter.

01

What the BYD Battery-Box is

BYD's Battery-Box Premium is a stack of battery modules on a base, with a control unit on top. There are two ranges. HVS uses 2.56 kWh modules and comes in 5.1 to 12.8 kWh. HVM uses 2.76 kWh modules and runs from 8.3 to 22.1 kWh. Up to three towers can run in parallel, so a big home or a small business can go well past that.

It's lithium iron phosphate, rated IP55 for indoor or outdoor floor mounting, and it doesn't have an inverter of its own. That's the point of it: you pick the hybrid inverter, and the BYD battery plugs into it.

02

BYD with a Fronius GEN24 Plus

Most of the BYD batteries we fit go in with a Fronius GEN24 Plus. The single-phase Primo GEN24 Plus takes BYD HVS 5.1 or 7.7, or HVM 11.0 to 19.3. The three-phase Symo takes the larger sizes. The inverter decides the backup: PV Point for one emergency circuit, or Full Backup for the whole house with the Fronius switching gear.

BYD also works with GoodWe, Sungrow and SMA hybrids, around 20 brands in all, so it can suit an existing hybrid inverter that was installed battery-ready.

03

Where we put it, and why

BYD rates the Battery-Box from −10 to 50°C, and output drops near the top of that range. A west-facing wall or a tin shed in a Townsville summer gets close, so we site it in shade with airflow, the same way we'd treat any battery. The warranty also asks for it to go in within a month of purchase and never sit unused for six months, which we handle on the install side.

Good to know

Solar & electrical questions, answered straight

No jargon, no sales spin — just honest answers from a local Townsville team.

Are your solar installers certified, and do you use cyclone-rated gear in Townsville?

Yes. Our technicians are fully licensed electrical contractors accredited through Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA). Because Townsville sits in a designated cyclone zone, we only fit heavy-duty, tier-one panels on robust, cyclone-rated mounting frameworks engineered to handle severe coastal storms and high wind loads.

How much can I realistically save by switching to solar in North Queensland?

With Townsville getting 300+ days of sun a year, a properly sized system delivers immediate returns. Your exact saving depends on your daily usage and how much runs during daylight (air con, pool pumps and the like). We run a quick energy audit and design a system that maximises your return — most homes see a meaningful drop on the very next bill.

Is it worth adding a solar battery to my home?

A battery lets you store the cheap daytime power your panels make instead of exporting it for a small feed-in rate, then use it through the night to slash your grid reliance. Our smart hybrid packages also give you blackout backup — keeping lights, fridge and essentials running through storm season.

What's a Level 2 EV charger and why install one at home?

Charging from a normal 10A wall socket is slow and stresses old wiring. A dedicated Level 2 wall charger cuts charge times dramatically and adds smart safety monitoring. We can also sync it with your solar so your car charges on free, excess rooftop power during the day.
