Ergon's Tariff 12E — nicknamed the "Solar Soaker" — is a time-of-use tariff built for exactly this moment. It makes grid power cheapest in the middle of the day, when North Queensland rooftops are pouring surplus solar back into the network. Schedule your EV to charge in that window and you're filling the car at the lowest rate going.
It pairs perfectly with a smart Level 2 charger. We set the charger to soak up your own excess solar first, then top up from the cheap super off-peak grid rate if you need more — so the most expensive evening peak never touches your charging. Add a home battery and you can bank that cheap daytime energy to charge the car after dark too.
You'll need a smart meter to move to Tariff 12E, and Ergon's rates and times can change — we'll walk you through whether it stacks up for your household as part of the quote.
